Urgent referrals

Please phone the rooms for any patient with:

  • Visible (macroscopic) haematuria, particularly in patients over 40 or smokers.
  • A new solid renal mass on imaging.
  • An obstructed kidney stone with fever or rising inflammatory markers (likely to need emergency drainage).
  • A new solid adrenal mass, particularly if hormonally active.
  • Any patient with severe, uncontrollable pain.
Truly emergency presentations (obstructed infected kidney, septic patient, uncontrollable bleeding) should go directly to the nearest emergency department. We can then arrange definitive urological follow-up.

What to include in your referral

  • Reason for referral and key clinical question.
  • Relevant history, medications and allergies.
  • Recent imaging reports (and ideally a link or disc with the images themselves).
  • Recent urinalysis, culture, creatinine and other relevant bloods.
  • Any previous specialist correspondence.
  • Patient contact details and preferred consulting location.
